Understanding Your CT Experience

If your provider has recommended a CT scan (Computed Tomography), you may be wondering what the experience will be like. We’re committed to delivering fast, accurate diagnostic imaging with a focus on your comfort, safety, and peace of mind.

CT scans are widely used to evaluate injuries, detect disease, and guide treatment decisions. The process is quick, non-invasive, and highly effective, helping your care team get the answers they need—so you can move forward with confidence.

What Is a CT Scan?

CT scan uses advanced X-ray technology and computer processing to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body. These images provide more information than standard X-rays and are commonly used to assess:

  • Bone injuries and fractures
  • Internal bleeding or trauma
  • Tumors or abnormalities
  • Lung conditions and infections
  • Abdominal and pelvic concerns

CT imaging is often recommended because it is fast, precise, and widely trusted by providers for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Arrival & Check-In

When you arrive for your CT scan appointment, our front desk team will welcome you and guide you through a simple check-in process. This typically includes:

  • Verifying your personal and insurance information
  • Scanning your ID
  • Reviewing and signing any necessary consent forms

Once checked in, our clinical team is notified right away so your visit can stay on schedule.

Preparing for Your CT Scan

Before your exam, a technologist or patient care team member will bring you to a private area to:

  • Review your medical history
  • Ask a few brief screening questions
  • Explain the CT scan process step by step

Depending on the type of scan, you may be asked to:

  • Change into comfortable scrubs
  • Remove jewelry or metal objects that could affect image quality

This preparation ensures your scan is both safe and diagnostically accurate.

A technologist makes sure you are comfortable and properly aligned for imaging.

During Your CT Scan

When it’s time for your exam, you’ll be guided into the CT room and positioned on the scanning table. The technologist will make sure you are comfortable and properly aligned for imaging.

For some exams, contrast dye may be used to enhance the visibility of certain structures. If needed:

  • An IV will be placed prior to the scan
  • You may feel a brief warm sensation—this is normal and temporary

The scan itself is very fast, often completed in just a few minutes. During the scan, you may be asked to hold your breath briefly to ensure clear images.

Your technologist will remain in communication with you throughout the exam to provide guidance and reassurance.

After Your CT Scan

Once your scan is complete:

  • You’ll return to the changing area if needed
  • You’ll be guided back to the lobby—no checkout required

Before you leave, our team will ensure you have everything you need and answer any final questions.

A board-certified radiologist will carefully review your images and send a detailed report to your referring provider, who will discuss results and next steps with you.
